ODA approves seven butterfly bush cultivars

The Oregon Department of Agriculture today approved seven butterfly bush selections. They are:
  • FLUTTERBY GRANDÉ™ Blueberry Cobbler Nectar Bush
  • FLUTTERBY GRANDÉ™ Peach Cobbler Nectar Bush
  • FLUTTERBY™ Pink Nectar Bush
  • FLUTTERBY PETITE™ Snow White Nectar Bush
  • FLUTTERBY GRANDÉ™ Sweet Marmalade Nectar Bush
  • FLUTTERBY GRANDÉ™ Tangerine Dream Nectar Bush
  • FLUTTERBY GRANDÉ™ Vanilla Nectar Bush
Since the end of 2009, cultivars of butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii, B. varabilis) have been banned from sale, purchase, transport or propagation in the state of Oregon under its noxious weed quarantine. However, seedless varieties have been allowed, and ODA set up a process to allow other cultivars if it is proven that they generate less than 2 percent viable seeds. The seven cultivars listed above were tested and shown to meet that standard. As a result, Oregon growers can now grow them, and Oregon gardeners can now enjoy them in their gardens.

In addition to the Ball cultivars listed, the following three cultivars have also been accepted under the amendment. The website is being updated regularly now.
